ABOUT US

RivCon Services is a privately owned commercial construction company that has been operating in the Wellington region since 2004.

Since then we have been involved in numerous aspects of both the commercial and residential construction industry from main construction, earthquake strengthening, refurbishment and internal fit-out to project management and professional cost consultancy.

Through our extensive network of designers, subcontractors and suppliers, RivCon provides a diverse approach to any project always holding the client’s requirements and interests at the forefront. We have great strength in partnering with clients from the start of a project and taking their ideas and requirements from the initial design phase all the way through to construction and completion.

RivCon place great emphasis on communication and transparency through the adoption of numerous reporting, cost management, programming and health and safety systems to ensure the client, design and finance teams are kept fully informed from start to finish. No matter how large or small your project might be you can rest assured that these same systems and controls will be implemented and executed to the highest of standards.

With both the company owners having a background in quantity surveying and being members of the NZ Institute of Quantity Surveyors, you can be confident that your project will be accurately value engineered with detailed budgets prepared from initial concepts and competitive pricing sought on finalised designs and any subsequent amendments made through to final completion.

Our ever-expanding portfolio of successful projects is testament to the level of diversity, expertise and detail that will be provided through partnering with RivCon on your next project. Some of our more notable projects include the construction of new medical facilities to produce nuclear medicine for treatment of cancer patients, complete refurbishment and earthquake strengthening (to 100% of code) of a 12-storey commercial office building in central Wellington, and high-end residential projects including those with complex heritage requirements.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

We implement comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures across all projects to ensure all staff, subcontractors, clients, consultants and the general public are protected whilst all works are undertaken. Safety procedures are implemented at the commencement of any project and are tailored to suit the nature of the works taking place. These site specific policies are updated regularly as the projects progress to ensure they are kept current with the stage that the project is at and the hazards that may apply.

It is our primary Health & Safety objective to observe and comply with all relevant requirements of the 2015 Health and Safety at Work Act and its regulations, the 2006 Fire Safety and Evacuation of Buildings Regulation, all relevant and applicable Approved Codes of Practise, Industry specific Standards and WorkSafe NZ Guidelines.

  • We maintain a comprehensive Health and Safety Management System to ensure that:
  • Responsibilities are clearly assigned and regularly reviewed against performance criteria.
  • Health and Safety objectives are set and reviewed annually.
  • Managers receive appropriate training to fully understand the business specific health & safety matters and are able to actively perform their duties.
  • All hazards are identified and all reasonable practicable steps are taken to mitigate the exposure to significant hazards, following the hierarchy of controls prescribed by the Act.
  • All employees, volunteers, subcontractors and visitors are advised of hazards they may be exposed to.
  • Provided machinery and equipment is checked regularly and maintained in safe condition.
  • All employees, volunteers and subcontractors are consulted and encouraged to participate in Health & Safety matters.
  • All accidents/incidents are accurately recorded as soon as possible.
  • All recorded accidents/incidents are investigated to identify the contributing factors, corrective action is taken to prevent recurrence.
  • A treatment and rehabilitation plan that ensures a safe, early and durable return to work is provided.
  • All employees, volunteers and subcontractors know the relevant specific emergency procedures.
  • A system of continuous improvement, includes reviewing policies and procedures each year, is promoted.

Further to this RivCon engage independent workplace health and safety auditors to complete site safety assessments and reports on projects of significant duration. These reports provide an overview of the level of compliance of the site and are available for clients review and record. To date all audit reports have been of a ‘High’ compliance level.

Site managers update hazard registers on a regular basis and complete toolbox talks with all persons working on site to ensure everyone is aware of any safety concerns on the site. They also request methodology statements from subcontractors prior to undertaking any potentially risky works to ensure any potential safety concerns are dealt with prior to commencement.

ENVIRONMENTAL /
SUSTAINABILITY

Environmentally sustainable design in the construction industry is the practice of increasing the efficiency with which buildings and their sites use energy, water, and materials, and of reducing impacts on human health and the environment for the entire lifecycle of a building.

At Rivcon, we are committed to managing our operations in a sustainable manner. We place emphasis on the reduction and recycling of any waste generated from our construction sites and integrate sustainable principles and practices on each and every project we undertake.

Site teams are encouraged to continually engage in sustainable thinking methods to ensure they are minimising the effect on the surrounding environment as they build.

The sustainable principles and practises we aspire to are:

  • Minimise the generation of waste, and the use of energy, water and resources by our business activities.
  • Ensure continual improvement to the Environmental, Work Health and Safety Management Systems.
  • Prevent pollution from RivCon operations by identifying and managing activities that have the potential to pollute the environment.
